IMAGINATION
Kimberley Powell, Wairoa, 15.10.04

Foreword: A good friend of mine tentatively offered to allocate a gracious amount of his web space to display my writing.  Delighted at the prospect I accepted before he could retract the offer, and immediately set pen to paper in a furious attempt to flaunt my so-called glorified talent and bring to fruition a masterpiece of work.

Alas, good intentions went astray.  The somewhat diminutive result bore an unrighteous resemblance to the grandiosity I had promised.    Flamboyance had proved futile, and the hunt to obtain glory, a delusion of grandeur.  The standing ovation was replaced by an empty hall, and reliance upon it had only mangled my unrealistic expectations.  It was a learning curve that kept going round.  Tired from floundering, I begged for inspiration, with arms wide open to the opportunity of a miracle.

Persistence prevailed. Over a glass of vodka and bout of self-analysis I calmly threw caution to the wind, and took a most uncharacteristic view, a candid one.  Expecting perfection was ridiculous. The outcome of this piece would not determine my fate on judgement day.  A spontaneous splurge of unrestrained ideas would instead suffice.

Surprisingly, the great digression begot new insights.  From the madness a vivid piece eventually emerged.  Truly a piece born of effort, passion, and writers block.  Yet despite the madness, its alignment to reality was in fact, nothing short of perfect.  And its purpose became clear, to exalt on high the creative essence of our spirit.  To celebrate spontaneity. To attribute talent, vivacity and voltage to the unsung but unique human capability that is, our imagination.  Blessed be the poetic licence that justifies all deviations from the rule.

This is a tribute to all aspiring writers who thrive on the drive of a thought, whose gift is one of expression, whose insatiable appetite to write cannot be tamed, and whose infinite learning curves are more like circles the size of Jupiter.

This piece is an insight into the world of our creative mind, namely our imagination and the passion that it generates.  From beginning to end, it spotlights this embryonic element of our nature, and demonstrates its colourful characteristics. This piece embraces, esteems and exalts our imagination, beyond all heights, as a stepping-stone to accepting the people we are, and accepting the abilities we have.  By examining the attitudes of those who engender genius, this piece also attributes human advancement to the intrinsic ability to imagine and create.

Imagination

“Imagination is more important than knowledge,” remarked Albert Einstein, a legendary scientist who lived the significance of this human ability.  Exalted as the mastermind behind some of the most significant discoveries of the human age, he is memorialized as one of the greatest geniuses of all time.  His life statement was testament to greatness, and truly gave evidence that the greatest discoveries and achievements of our millennium resulted from human creativity.  Had the influence of such an essential element been lacking, the discoveries would have perhaps remained to this day a figment.

From movie making to space travel, all ingenious achievements great and small bear testimony to the existence of this exceptional ability.  Scientific, medical and technological advancements have been and continue to be manifestations of its influence.  Feats throughout history pay tribute to its power, and evidence of its current impact continues to ripple amidst our lives and inspire generations of genius to come.  The sheer significance of this very quality and the history of achievement it has made, implores us to examine it, and to accept the irrefutable evidence of its existence.

In this modern day and age, insights such as Einstein’s are exceptional and are often paramount to perplexity.  Sadly, many brush aside the significance, the reality of it particularly in their own existence.  As the years pass, their skepticism lapses often into conformity, and their conformity into denial.  Denial to accept and assign priority to the release of their own extraordinary gift.  Denial against conforming to the cynical attitudes of those who out of fear, prefer to discard its intangible presence as fabrication.  The lemmings that cast their imagination aside as a quirky and mysterious state of mind.

In submission and denial the larger part of society flounders behind square walls and gray barriers, their marionette strings tied to the fingers of dominating robots whose own lemming lives ‘trojan’ along an assembly line of oblivion.  Their prototypical world is a crooked factory locked into surrender, bent on amassing hollow individuals into submission.  Their existence is one of monotony, their lives an imitation of the real human substance needed to govern us.

Yet, against the staid attitudes of the lemmings, fight the creative leaders of the future who march onwards beyond forfeit and defeat towards their destinies - destinies that are beyond the limit of the sky, at a height far above the ground from where the lemmings lumber along.  While conformity and speculation shroud the acceptance of this inherent ability, their curiosity and confidence instead embrace the unknown possibilities and seek to explore its potential.

It is the geniuses of the era that shake the virtual gates of sanity, the ones who step out of the line of conforming lemmings who are behind the truly significant discoveries and achievements of this age. They are the ones hungering to make a true difference, who intelligently master their skill, thrusting their heart into every euphoric invention, knowing that this will lead their direction in life.  Their direction in life carves out a trail for us to follow in their footsteps of greatness.  On and on through generation and history their imagination guides them to higher levels of knowledge and achievement.  The human race is pulled forward.

This genius attitude resounds from the ones who seek to unearth a treasure trove of opportunity, the ones who accept that their imagination is to them as much a reality as life itself is, and the ones who must advance the entire human race.  Their attitudes engender significance, because it is their attitudes, their imagination that creates history.

Imagination is always at the beginning of magnificence, of greatness, exquisitely immune to the actual factual rules of appropriate conduct and solution.  It evokes an instinctual desire to experience the things beyond what we see, to dare to indulge in astounding feats physically impossible, to taste the wonderfully wild ways that the preconceived lemmings look askance at.

Yet, its availability is not limited to a privileged or elite few.  All humans are afforded this capacity, created with the desire to imagine and to dream and to reach for something exceptional.  All minds are capable of tapping into this source and evoking the voltage of power that awaits release.  Watch as it consumes the daring minds who leap outside the square and shout their calling to the world.  Their cry of jubilation is in itself an exaltation of the feat in exploring this immense quality.

Its power to envision and create and inspire is unparalleled.  Ask any genius, and he will tell you that our imagination is a phenomenon, an intangible wonder, a titanic force, that the logical mind has not yet begun to conceive. And though it exists silently, is one of the few daringly unorthodox, yet completely innocent abilities humans have.  Under this contradiction, it brings to our lives an exceptional amount of pleasure and wonder, beyond what is even considered acceptable, appropriate.

It holds the potential for all achievement, for all discovery, for all adventure.  And though it exists within a small enclosure, this unfathomable element of our nature breaks the boundaries of reality.  It transcends the normal limits, feigning reality and yielding forth dreams to lonely lost souls.  It is a medicine, an antidote, a spirit and a force, and to all those who embrace their imagination it makes alive the dreams we dare to dream, that really can come true.

Humans worldwide have the opportunity to test this tantalising talent within them.  To push the precincts beyond those boundaries and skyrocket to the sun, stars and sky.  The universe is waiting to be broken into.  The ticket is free if the pilot is willing.  But one must overcome the fear of flight and dare to indulge in the dreams and desires of life.  Simply for a moment, become a child with an unalloyed heart and a mind fortified with dreams.

Learn to live with a desire to dream and dive beyond all boundaries. Strive for everything under the sun, and as you soar through the sky, see that the world is a lot smaller from so high up. Remember that the world below is waiting, the release of your extraordinary gifts, the unfailing nature of your talent, an ascension to your higher being.

To reach the zenith of your mission, know that the miraculous chances life brings are there to be taken, by the souls whose passion to grow is insatiable. Shout out loud, and that will be your calling, to break out and embrace your liberty.   For the brief moments that you come to rest, dream of the euphoria that your imagination can bring, the oasis of relief and the beauty you can create for the rest of your life.

Know that this is reality. It is not hard to reach beyond the rainbow, for the dreams you dare to dream, that really can come true…
